Discover the Story
Behind This Place

Mount Sabyinyo is one of the remarkable volcanic mountains of the Virunga range, situated along the borders of Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Its name is associated with the mountain’s distinctive, worn-looking peaks, which resemble the teeth of an old man. Unlike the smoother volcanic profiles of some neighbouring mountains, Sabyinyo’s jagged ridges and deeply eroded slopes give it a character entirely its own.

The mountain is particularly famous for its highest summit, where the three national borders converge. Reaching this point is an achievement that makes the climb especially memorable.

The ascent takes hikers through changing mountain vegetation and across challenging terrain, including steep slopes, narrow ridges and wooden ladders. The climb demands determination and preparation, but the scenery and sense of accomplishment make it an extraordinary experience.

Mount Sabyinyo is more than a mountain to look at. It is a destination for those who want to challenge themselves and experience the Virunga landscape up close.
