Mgahinga Gorilla National Park lies in southwestern Uganda, within the spectacular Virunga volcanic mountain range. Though small in size, the park protects an extraordinary landscape of forested slopes, bamboo zones, volcanic peaks and high-altitude vegetation.
The park is home to three striking volcanoes: Mount Muhabura, Mount Gahinga and Mount Sabyinyo. Their distinctive profiles dominate the surrounding landscape, creating a dramatic setting for hiking and nature experiences.
Beyond its scenery, Mgahinga is an important refuge for endangered mountain gorillas and the rare golden monkeys that inhabit its bamboo forests. Visitors can also experience the area’s cultural heritage through the Batwa community, whose traditional relationship with the forest forms an important part of the region’s history.
For travellers seeking more than a conventional safari, Mgahinga offers an opportunity to experience Uganda’s mountain wilderness from a different perspective.
